June please get here faster

I CANNOT WAIT until May is over. This next week is killer. Thankfully my Thursday class got canceled for next week - so that'll make things a little easier. If you haven't already, please check out RRL's website, which was recently overhauled by our friend Benji. He's back to the midwest after a stint in Portland, Oregon. We're glad to have you back, Benji! He also made a website for my friend, Jeff and his mad artistic skillz. Rodeo has a new album coming out called "This is why we don't have nice things" and is going on tour all summer long (without me)! We have four Indiana tour kick-off shows that also double as our cd-release shows. And guess what? We're coming to a town near you! We will be playing Thursday 5/27 in Indianapolis at the Vollrath, Friday 5/28 a the 803 in Marion, Saturday 5/29 at the Wooden Nickel (all ages show, starts at 3 pm) and later that day at the Dash-in in Fort Wayne, and finally Sunday 5/30 at the Bishop in Bloomington. What a weekend! I will be playing all shows, except Fort Wayne, because I am attending my friend Alicia's wedding/BTH Reunion in Lexington, KY that day. Oh, AND Jared and I are closing on our house on Wed 5/26! Whoooaoaoa! Hope your week is a little less busy than mine.

Punk Rock Prom

Here you go. Somehow I manage to look terrible in almost every picture that is taken of me. Please disregard my double chin and general fatness. I promise to work on getting thinner at some point - but probably not for a few years because I'm really busy. Maybe I'll start exercising when I'm done with school!

Jess is so HILARIOUS.

This weekend Rodeo Ruby Love played the Punk Rock Prom, hosted by the ES Jungle in Indianpolis. Now, most of you know how much I loooove to dress up - so you can imagine how excited I was to play this show. I searched far and wide for a cheap and hilarious prom dress; however, I did not find one. Jess and I even traveled as far as Bedford to check out what their thrift stores had to offer. The Elegant Lady provided us with some fun, but no prom dresses (well, they had a million prom dresses, but they were priced at $60 and up!). Jess did find this elegant yellow jumper:

She swears she thought it was a dress when she chose to try it on. Lookin' good Jessie. Don't worry, she did not buy the jumper, but she did find a great polka dot dress. I'll try to get a pic soon. And of course, I felt it was imperative to take a picture outside the Elegant Lady:

Two weeks ago, my friend Gaby had an art show, displaying portraits of women from Bloomington. To be exact, they were pictures of awesome women who do a lot of important work in the community. Jess thought it would be fun to take a picture of herself by her own portrait, so here is Jess gazing at herself on the wall:

And Jess posing by her portrait, trying to look seductive (it's working for you Jess) :

And here are the rest of the photos without Jess in the picture:

And lastly, me, Jared, and Jess taking "artsy" pictures with Jess's iPod telephone outside the art building:

As soon as Punk Rock Prom photos are posted, I'll put Rodeo's group picture up. I'm sure it will be pretty great. It has to be, because I was wearing a tiara. That's right. I love prom.

Good News!

I survived. I didn't get lost, but I did get confused trying to figure out where to park and ended up circling campus 4 times before I landed. It's weird being in school again. The first thing my professor said was, "When was your last theory class?" I thought about it and realized my last theory class was probably in 2004 (most other people took one last semester). So I don't remember much. It's kind of overwhelming taking a summer class as my first class in 4 years - there are only 6 weeks and there is a lot of homework! The syllabus was confusing and my professor was even more confusing! Toward the end, most students had no idea what was actually due next week, and what wasn't. We had to get into small groups to start working on group presentations, but no one knew when the presentation would be due - or what we were supposed to be doing in our small group. Thankfully, there are a couple gals in my group who are also advanced standing and who were just as confused and overwhelmed as I felt. So at least I made some friends. So thank you for wishing me luck, I'm glad I made it out alive.

First Day Jitters

When I was growing up, my mother would take always take a picture of me on the first day of school. So from K-12 there is a picture of me wearing my new school clothes and sporting my new backpack. To honor this tradition, I woke Jared up early this morning and made him take a picture of me. I didn't buy new school clothes this year, but I'm excited/nervous like any school girl is on her first day of class. P.S. Jess gave me directions to the social work building, so I shouldn't get lost.
Our camera doesn't take the clearest of pictures (it's better for youtubes), but here's one of my whole ensemble. Hope your day is lovely, don't forget to take your vitamins.

Yikes!

I officially start school tomorrow. So far my experience with IUPUI has been disasterous. First, I had to register for my classes online, using a terrible database thing that doesn't make any sense. Second, for some reason the database wouldn't allow me to register for my summer class. I contacted my advisor and it took like a week to fix. Third, they chose to close the section of the class I signed up for. Fourth, it took like 2 days for me to be able to register for the other section - and there was only 1 spot left in the class (thankfully I got it). Fifth, my professor's last name is: Gentle-Genitty. That's right. Oh and lastly, I still don't really know how to get to the social work building, so I'll probably get lost.

Whoa! Finally!

As most of you probably know, my dear husband runs a little record label called Flannelgraph Records. And guess what? Flannelgraph now has a website! You can check out upcoming releases and events! And I'm sure there will be some links to ridiculous youtubes as well. So head on over to flannelgraphrecords.com and check check check it out!
Just for the record, I think this should be incorporated into the Flannelgraph logo. We really know how to party.

Summer? Bummer.

I hate summer. You know how most people get seasonal depression in the winter? I get depressed in the summer. I get cranky and sweaty and I hate summer. I was made for colder climates, where you can wear a million layers at a time. In the summer it is hot and humid and there are bugs everywhere, trying to get into my house and into my car. I sweat non-stop. It is so so terrible. So I have to either give up wearing layers and wear summer clothes, or I can keep wearing them and sweat even more. Well, Jess and I have decided to wear layers anyway. So take that summer! I defy you with my layers!

I hope the rest of you who like summer enjoy it, and don't get eaten by bugs. And don't forget to wear sunscreen when you're outside.

Big News!!!

I'm not sure if you noticed, but I have 10 followers now! Totally in double digits! I remember when I turned 10 years old and expected a special birthday surprise because I was into double digits. But it was the same old birthday routine. I was slightly disappointed.

I don't have much else to say today, except that the month of May is going to be pretty crazy. I'm already feeling a little nutty. I start school next week, I have to practice with Rodeo on Mondays, I'm playing lots of shows with Rodeo, and we're closing on our house. Also my friend Alicia is getting married the same weekend Rodeo is playing our CD release shows. Speaking of which, our new album is coming out this summer! So if you don't see me around much it's because I'm super busy being very important. That's not true. Well, the busy part is true. Have a great month. I'll try to keep up and keep you posted. I'm sure you love reading my hilarious blogs.

Fat Girls Love Fashion, too

It's true. I asked Jess if she wanted to write a blog with that title - she said yes, but I'm not sure she meant it. She may not be too excited about those particular words. She also may not have time to write a blog - but I'm going to bug her about it because I think she has a keen sense of fashion and we make a good team.

My friend Tara is moving to Bloomington and guess what? So is her lovely handmade business called Hair Treasures. Check out her blog and her Etsy shop! What delightful accessories! Welcome to Bloomington, Tara!
