Camping?

Well I camped for two days and one night with my family and have decided it's not my cup of tea. I tried to remember the last time I camped and realized it's probably been 10 years. I think there's a reason for that! First, I forget that being outside means there's bugs everywhere. I HATE bugs. I hate bees and spiders and all things that buzz and crawl. And of course they were buzzing around me the entire time! My family would burst into laughter each time I jumped out of my seat and ran away from a horsefly/bee/whatever was buzzing close to my ear. Even my 5 year old niece, Jacey, said something like "Annie has bug issues." Second, I hate summer. Why would anyone want to camp in the summer? It was soooo hot and humid the entire time, I never stopped sweating. The second day we went swimming and I could barely get my bathing suit on - I had to inch it up my body because it was so hot (the weather, of course). Third, I don't even own the correct clothing to wear on a camping trip! I got out to the campground and realized I didn't bring any tennishoes, so we had to go hiking on paved trails to accomodate me and my gladiator sandals. I have one pair of shorts, which I made from an old pair of jeans, and my sister says, "Don't you have any jersey shorts or something cooler than that?" I thought about it and the answer is no. I don't buy jersey shorts. I buy platforms and dresses. I did, however, buy a tank top so that I wouldn't totally die in the heat and I did wear it yesterday! We went to the pool yesterday, and even after I bathed myself in sun block I got a sunburn. I don't understand why we label it "sunblock" if it won't block the sun! So today I had to wear the softest things I own because my shoulders and chest got burnt! Geesh. You'd think by now I could successfully stay out in the sun.

In other news, I have made the decision to buy a swimsuit online. I have not decided which one to buy - there are a few I've been looking at. Here's one:

This is the "Marilyn" suit in pink (look at all the rouching!!!! it's everywhere!) from pinupgirlclothing.com . Isn't it beautiful? ModCloth also has a nice variety of swimsuits, this is my favorite, although it is totally out of my price range:

Here's a fun skirted swimsuit from unique-vintage.com - another suit full of rouching.

My heart desires as much rouching and ruffles as possible. Although I wouldn't mind finding a swimsuit with sleeves - apparently my skin needs all the protection it can get!

Fashion Blog Post #2

I ordered my intern to take my picture again today. Thank heavens for interns! I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do when her internship is over... Well, for now I will continue to have her take my picture with my cellular telephone. Jess and I decided we needed to hit the pool this weekend but I felt I might need a new swimsuit, so we combed Target and the entire mall, with no luck. It turned out okay, because I found this fun skirt for $10 at Macy's and realized when I got home that my old bathing suit still fits. I really want a vintage bathing suit (or vintage inspired) with as much rouching as possible. I look Etsy and eBay almost every day! And stare and stare at the different bathing suits. There's a couple on Etsy I've had my eye on, but I'm nervous about buying a bathing suit without trying it on - I hate buying things without trying them on. But maybe I'll just get over it and buy them anyway! Anyway, here's today's outfit:

Yikes, I need a real camera! Well anyway, I really like this new skirt I got - it has an elastic waistband AND pockets! Super fun and summery! I paired it with a bright pink shirt dress from Old Navy. It's a little tight around my mid section, so it worked out well to wear the high waisted skirt with it! And I recently bought this fun yellow headband from Target. I just couldn't resist wearing it today! Jess complained that she couldn't see some of the accessories in my last fashion post, and we're trying to come up with a better system to take pictures of our outfits. Oh, and we're thinking about starting a new blog page for our joint fashion blog (I have tentatively named it Fat Girls Love Fashion Too), so we'll keep you informed of what we decide.

My parents are coming down to camp at Brown County State Park this week and I'm real excited to hang out with them! My sister and her kids are coming, as well. So I'll be out in the woods for a few days, probably in my wedge sandals since I'm a firm believer in fashion over function. I'll try to take some pictures of my adventures! (Oh and I finally get to see Eclipse with Cassie - cannot wait) Have a good week and don't forget to watch some teen drama tv! (You can currently watch Roswell instantly on Netflix)

What a day.

Today I started the first of a 2-day training about suicide intervention. It was a long 8 hours, let me tell you. We actually talked most of the time in small groups - 8 hours of talking about suicide! I left feeling rather despondent. Then I had to walk back to work to finish up some things and ended up working an 11 hour day. I could barely pay attention to the client I met with at the end of the day - I was really struggling to pay attention and had to apologize to her for my slow comprehension! By the time I came home, all I wanted to do was watch Roswell on my computer (you can watch it instantly on Netflix!); however, my computer had different plans. It took about an hour to watch about 20 minutes of the show because my computer kept freezing and the show would stop. I finally gave up on it, made some french fries, and watched Bridget Jones Diary instead. I guess it made me feel a little better.
Lately I've been thinking about my hilarious fashion/hair transformations over the years. Since I've totally failed to take pictures of my outfits the last couple of days, I thought I'd leave you with a great picture from the past. Ah, Christmas at Boots Street, circa 2005. I'm in the left-hand corner, black hair and all. Clockwise from me is Amy, Lindsey, Alicia, Nozomi, and Danielle. What lovely ladies we are! Tomorrow is another long day so I will retire now to dream of people jumping off buildings and a black cat named Veda (is that how we spelled it?).

Summer Heat!

Most of you know how much I hate summer, which has made it very difficult for me to keep the committment to my long hair. Currently my hair is longer than it has been since I graduated from high school, and I'm trying really hard to keep it long! With the heat and humidity, its been impossible to keep it down. In Style Magazine told me that buns are totally in - and they are the only thing keeping me from chopping it all off! Lately I've been making a bun on the crown of my head, and pulling my bangs out of the way so they don't get so sweaty. I've been looking for pretty hair pieces, too, to jazz things up a bit! Here's a picture of my hair from yesterday, lookin' fine with my bejeweled barette from H&M.
There's another Roller Derby bout this weekend, and guess what? My co-worker Sadie MacDeath is playing! I hope to see you there, cheering on those good lookin' girls (who can also beat you up)! She's also letting me borrow the 6th Harry Potter movie so I can be all caught up when the new movie comes out in a few months! If you're into the dark arts, let me know and we can go watch it together (the trailer gave me goose bumps!). My mom promised not to tell my very Wesleyan family members about my new obsession, so hopefully I won't get excommunicated! Man I'm livin' on the edge.

Fashion Blog Entry #1

Hello hello! Hope your weekend was great! Ours was busy as usual, with lots of traveling all over Indiana. I'm glad to be home! I'm super tired and ready for an evening of just sitting around. I get kind of "peopled out" sometimes after being around lots of people for a few days, so if you don't see me for a couple days, don't worry, it's nothing personal. I just need wind down. In blog news, I made my intern at work take my picture for a fashion blog today. We took the picture with my phone so it's not great, but I really like my outfit today and wanted to share it with you:
One of my clients recently asked me how I get dressed and said, "Do you just pick out whatever doesn't match?" I chuckled and said no, but I'm really into mixing prints lately. So today I wore this fun little summer dress I found at Goodwill (it's actually a maternity dress, but it was so cute I couldn't leave it there!) and my new scarf, also from Goodwill. Jess was kind enough to lend me this belt. And of course, I had to wear my big wedge sandals (sorry you can't see them well, I will work on my camera skills). Fun Fun Fun! I freaking hate summer, but I do love things that come with summer, like cook-outs and frizzy, messy hair. Hope you are enjoying the heat wave and don't forget to lay off the soda and drink plenty of water!

Siblings

I found a box of my old yearbooks and other funny things from my childhood this week while moving, and it has made me miss my dear siblings. My sister, Breezey is currently in France doing all sorts of fun things like learning French grammar and getting a super tan. She wrote on her blog that she wants to take me with her some day because there would be so many things I could put on my fashion blog! Maybe I should get my fashion blog going first? I'm workin' on it I promise. (Jared and I got the interweb sent to us through the mail. We're still trying to hook it up) My brother Zack is on tour with Rodeo right now, going all over the country and having one ridiculously weird experience after another. You can read about their adventures on Rodeo's blog. My sister Cassie is a few hours away takin' care of her cute little kiddos and I don't get to see her often. Thankfully, my parents, Cassie, and the kids are coming down to camp in Brown County later this month! Cassie and I will be traveling to a theatre to see Eclipse together. If you've never seen a movie with Cassie, please do so as soon as possible. Any move with hot guys will do - she's the funniest person to watch a movie with! I've been thinking a lot lately about my dear family and how grateful I am to be a part of it. Okay, so now that the mushy stuff is over, here are few funny pics I'd like to share.

First, this is Jared mowing our grass with a non-motorized lawn mower. He didn't get too far.

Second, this is a picture my mom just emailed me, back from Christmas. Aren't the boys so cute?

My mother especially liked the fact that Jared and Erik are holding hands. Yikes.

College Fashionista

Remember a while back when I told you about meeting Denison Witmer? What I didn't tell you was that he took Jared and I out for coffee before the show. While we were sitting outside at Soma, a girl with a super cute puppy and a giant camera walked by and asked to take Denison's picture for a fashion blog. She then asked to take my picture as well, but never told me the name of the blog or anything. Well, my main man Jared found the blog (called College Fashionista) and the post with my picture!!! I've made it to the top! Please check check check it out!!! The writer refers to me as a "fashionista" several times. I could totally get used to that!

Happy Birthday America

I hope your 4th of July was as great as mine was - complete with lots of friends, lots of food, and lots of patriotic songs. I do love America. Oh, and while I was out celebrating this great nation, my mother was at my new house cleaning my kitchen. I love my mother, too. She's so good to me.

Home Owners

Well, we went to pick up our keys last night and the sellers aren't done moving! They only have a few more trips to make and will hopefully be done today. Initially I was rather irritated because I want the house to be mine and I want all their stuff to be gone! But I calmed down after they showed us how to work the retractable awning on the side porch and realized that they are elderly and it takes them a while to do anything. They have left several things in the house for us, such as some decorative plates in the kitchen, a pair of crutches, and one tennis racket. There are also some nice flowers planted in the back yard. As I was doing laundry in my new laundry room, I realized we need several things, like a lawnmower! Hopefully we will accumulate these things and have enough space in our house for all of our stuff. Here are some pictures I thought you might enjoy Kinda hard to see, but the best picture I have of the outside so far!Just chillin' on my front porch.
And my lovely kitchen (please excuse the mess on the counters, as I said, they are still moving). Look at all that counter space! And cabinets! And the mirror above the sink! What? Yes, that's correct. There is a mirror above the sink, in between the two windows. This house has character. Please come and visit us soon!
