A light at the end of a very long tunnel

This week has been absolutely terrible. Work has been crazy and gets worse daily. I cut my thumb cutting up apples. The egg carton came flying out of the fridge when I opened the door and most of the eggs were broken. I spilled an entire tray of yam juice all over my coat. I got yelled at by a client's mother (who also yelled at the agency director and the president of the board). My car had a major breakdown. The screen on my cellular telephone stops working when I use the down button. Maybe all these things don't sound too bad, but combine them with mounting stress, hormones, and poor sleeping patterns... yikes. I've been a bit of a mess. Thankfully, my husband bought me the perfect Christmas presents to make up for it. Friday night he took me to the Buskirk Chumley Theater to see a Christmas Carol. It was wonderful! We sat in the left side of the balcony, just like those old guys from the Muppets. But instead of yelling and throwing things at the stage, I was glowing and laughing and having a wonderful time. While I was getting ready for the show, Jared gave me my other Christmas present, which was my very own Modcloth dress!

This is the Walking Phoenix Dress. I have wanted something from Modcloth for a long time, but it's still a little out of my price range, so I thought it would be a perfect Christmas gift. I sent Jared 5 or 6 different dresses and he chose the one he liked the best. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of me wearing it yet, but it fits perfectly! He also surprised me with this, the Compass Rose necklace:

And if that wasn't enough, he found these Galaxy socks and felt like I just had to have them!

What a wonderful lot of Christmas presents! Thanks Jared, you're the best. Today I got to sleep in and hang out with my friend Samantha. We made Christmas cookies and sang along to the Glee soundtrack. I bought my first Christmas presents today - talk about a late start. I always think I should start early, but don't usually buy anything until the week of Christmas. Hopefully my vehicle will be up and running again before we need to do all our traveling! Have fun finishing up your shopping! And don't put your yams in a flimsy tin pan. They WILL spill all over you.

A huge mistake and a proposal

1.) Have you ever been excited about your outfit, then realized when you got wherever you were going that you had made a huge mistake? This happened to me this morning. Last night I couldn't sleep, so I was (of course) hitting up some fashion blogs. Have you checked out Kendi Everyday? You should. Jess told me about her and I think we are both obsessed with her now. Well, I had this great idea for an outfit today, inspired by one she wore on her blog. But when I got to work I realized it just wasn't working out. I had made a HUGE mistake. First, I should have washed my hair. It's greasy but I couldn't make myself get out of bed so I look gross in general. Second, I should have work a different pair of jeans. I have these jeans from Target that get stretched out in about 15 minutes. It's so frustrating! I hate stretchy jeans - I need structured clothing to keep me all tucked in and smooth. Third, I couldn't decide if I should keep my shirt tucked in or not. So it was tucked in for a while, then pulled out, then tucked back in, and pulled back out again. What a mess.

2.) About my proposal. If you don't read jenloveskev, you should. She is part of a blogger community that has clothing swaps. I have recently come to realize that there are lots of clothes in my closet I do not wear, or just don't fit me anymore. I thought I would propose a clothing swap. Maybe after Christmas, when things are slower for everyone (and we all get new clothes so we're more apt to throw out old ones!). If you'd like to be part of it, please let me know!!! Tell your Bloomington friends and let's get this party started!

Ruffles and Things

As it gets colder I find myself wanting to wear skirts more often, just so I can wear tights. I've realized that most seasons agree with me, except for summer. You can totally wear tights during all other seasons. Lately I've seen the fashion bloggers adding socks with their tights, so I asked for some knee high socks for Christmas and can't wait to try it out! I'll let you know how it goes. Lately I've been totally obsessed with anything girly - mostly clothing covered in ruffles and giant bows. Nothing makes me feel more like an elegant lady than ruffles and bows! And here is a prime example:
Jared and I are still working out camera skills - I don't know why, but when he takes pictures of me the top half of my body always looks bigger than the bottom half. I tried to take better pictures of my tights, but Jared was cooking dinner and couldn't help me so they didn't turn out so well. But here are few small details:

Breezey found this brooch while she was in France and brought it back for me as a souvenir! I love it! It's so classy. The white ruffle shirt is a prized possession I found at Goodwill. The black blazer was a gift from my mom (for job interviews), from H&M. Ruffly/flowery skirt is from the clearance rack at Kohl's. Pink bow headband from Target (they have lots in different colors - you should get one!).

Well tonight was my last night of class for the semester. I still have a couple assignments left to finish, but by early next week I will be done for the semester! Hooray! I'll be ready to party EVERY night until spring semester begins. Rodeo has some shows this weekend, so I'll be pretty busy, but I'll try to take some pictures of our adventures. Hope you have a great weekend and find yourself wearing ruffles and bows and tights and all things lovely.

Back in the Habit

Well, I am back to work full-time and feeling much better. I am sooo thankful that my concussion is gone. It's so wonderful to feel normal again! This weekend we held the annual Cheek Home Alone party, when we watch both Home Alone movies back to back. It was super fun and I got really excited about taking pictures at the beginning of the party, but forgot to keep taking them. So here are some pics from the pre-movie viewing part of the party.

Just hangin' eatin' some homemade snacks, no big deal.

Kyle is soooo ready to party. He loves Home Alone.

Total party in the kitchen! We love snacks!
I hope you had a good weekend! And if you missed our party, you should probably watch the Home Alone movies to help you get in the Christmas spirit. This week is the last of my in-person classes and next week is the last of my online class! Hooray! I cannot wait for this semester to be over. Then I get to start all over again in January and add a practicum. Good news is I'll be doing my internship at IU, working with a gal I highly respect and I think will be pretty helpful. I'm very glad of that.

Lastly, I wanted to share my outfit from today. The last few weeks I haven't quite looked my best. Today I felt more like myself than I have in a long time, sometimes accessories just make you feel better, you know?

A very belated...

Happy Thanksgiving from the Von Trapp family (also known as the Deisler clan)!

Beverly Hills, ever heard of it?

This week I have been catching up on homework like WHOA. I haven't done any for the last two weeks, so now I'm making up for lost time. I do my best work when I have something on the tv for background noise, but it has to be something I've already seen, otherwise I can't pay any attention to my work. This week I have been watching a marathon of Beverly Hills 90210 (the original, duh). I love this television series. With all these quizzes on Facebook about which Harry Potter character you can be, I've been thinking about which 90210 character I would be (sad, I know). Well, I've decided I would have to be Kelly Taylor. Brenda is too moody/bitchy for me. Donna is gross looking and has a giant space between her boobs that really weirds me out. Andrea is too old to actually be on the show and she drives me crazy. Now Kelly has made her share of bad decisions (like making out with Dylan while he is dating Brenda, snorting cocaine, and almost becoming a member of a cult), but in the end she's pretty reasonable and has such a lovely skin tone. So if you are cramming to finish your work before the end of the semester and need a study buddy, stop by the Cheek house! We can work together and discuss 90210. I'll help you figure out what character you are! Also, this weekend is the annual Cheek Home Alone Party. So stop by on Saturday night and be ready to party!
